Zachery Ty Bryan, widely recognized for his role as the eldest offspring of Tim Allen’s character on the iconic ABC sitcom Home Improvement, found himself embroiled in legal trouble once again. On Thursday afternoon, authorities in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, apprehended the 43-year-old former actor, charging him with second-degree domestic violence. Court records reveal that Bryan remains detained, with bail set at $10,000.
This incident marks another entry in a string of legal entanglements for Bryan. Just months ago, in October, he was taken into custody in Oklahoma under allegations of driving under the influence and operating a vehicle without a valid license. Earlier in the same year, he faced felony charges for driving under the influence and a misdemeanor count of contempt of court.
Bryan’s history with domestic violence allegations is extensive. In February 2021, he faced charges including felony assault and third-degree robbery in Oregon. These charges stemmed from a 2020 incident in which he was accused of strangling his then-girlfriend, Johnny Faye Cartwright.
He ultimately entered a guilty plea to fourth-degree felony assault, resulting in a one-week jail term and a 36-month probationary period. Interestingly, Bryan and Cartwright tied the knot in 2021 and now share three children. However, the turbulence persisted, with another arrest in July 2023 on charges of domestic assault.
Bryan’s acting career, which began at a tender age, brought him fame as Brad Taylor, the eldest of the Taylor children on Home Improvement. Spanning eight seasons, the sitcom debuted when Bryan was just nine years old and concluded as he turned 17.
Beyond the series, Bryan appeared in films such as First Kid and guest-starred on popular shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Reading Rainbow. He later expanded his portfolio with appearances in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Smallville, Veronica Mars, and Burn Notice. Ultimately, he stepped away from the limelight in 2009, concluding his career in entertainment.
